Astanga, or sometimes written Ashtanga Yoga exercises is actually taught these days by a man named Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, in Mysore, Indian.  He has brought astanga yoga to the western about 25 decades ago and still instructs these days at 91 decades of age.  Astanga yoga began with the rediscovery of the historical manuscript Yoga exercises Korunta.  It explains a unique program of Hatha yoga as used and created by the historical sage Vamana Rishi.  It is believed to be the original asana used intended by Patanjali.
