Aquaplaning occurs
when the water in
front of a car tire converge
more quickly than could be pushed by the weight of
your car. The
pressure of water lifts your car so that hovering over the
water between the tire and the road surface. At
that point, your car will lose
contact with the road surface,
and you can
slip in or out of
your lane even
out of the way.
To avoid this situation, tire
pressure should always
be checked. The flow of the tires
should also be deep enough. If necessary, the tire should be replaced.
Slow down when roads are wet, and avoid standing
water. Keep following the trail left by car tires
in front of you. If you feel the car
drifting over the water, do not hit the brakes or turn
the wheel suddenly. This will
make your car slip.
Remove the stamping
on accelerator pedal until the car speed
is reduced and you
feel the grip of the
tire back on the road surface. If your car is equipped with ABS, step
on the brakes as normal. Computers
in the brake system will do the pumping of
its own when necessary.
